In a previous post that I just published on this blog recently, I talked about how you can easily apply for your Verve card, collect it from the Authorised commercial banks in Nigeria and use it for your routine transaction. However, I did mention at the very end of the article that you will not be able to use your Verve card for online payments except if you register it for the InterSwitch SafeToken Service. I promised to come up with an article that will guide you on how to do so and here it goes.

The SafeToken Service is an InterSwitch powered feature available to only the registered users of their Verve cards which enables them to process online transactions with ease. Thus, the system works by generating a 6 to 8 digit One-Time-Password (OTP) anytime a user places a transaction using the InterSwitch online Payment facility.

When you register your card for this SafeToken service, you will make your card eligible and valid for the processing of online payments on internet business platforms, e-commerce portals and online merchant websites that have integrated their systems with the Interswitch Payment gateway. This is made possible through a 2nd-level authentication process requiring your One Time Password (OTP) as well as your Verve Card Number, the correct PIN as well as the CVV2 code.

That is why it is very necessary for you to register for the InterSwitch SafeToken Service so as to be able to get your own One Time Password (OTP) for your Verve card and start processing your online transactions conveniently on any InterSwitch Merchant website. This can easily be done in a matter of few minutes at any Bank ATM outlet nearest to you. Just visit any of them installed closest to you and follow these instructions outlined below in order to successfully activate your Verve card for online transactions:

• Put your Verve card into the ATM as soon as you get access to any of them.

• Key in your secret 4-digit PIN and proceed.

• For the 'Customer Reference Number' field, type in your mobile phone number and proceed with the operation.

• Then, a command prompt which will read thus 'Do you want to make this payment?' as well as 'Amount Due: N1' will show up on the ATM Screen.

• Please do not edit anything on the page. Just select the 'Pay amount due' option and you will get an instant message on the resulting page notifying you that your operation has been confirmed and that your registration for the SafeToken Service was successful.

This means that you have finally activated your Verve card for online dealings and from that moment onwards, you can start making your online payments and transactions conveniently using your Verve card. Whenever you are making your payments online with your Verve card and it comes to a stage where the system will require you to provide your One Time Password (OTP) for the transaction, an automatic SMS containing you OTP for that particular transaction will be generated by InterSwitch and sent to the phone number which you used to register for their SafeToken Service at the ATM for the activation of your Verve Card for online payments. Type the number as soon as you get it into the required field and complete your online transaction successfully.

You can also add your Verve card to the QuickTeller Mobile Apps for Android and Blackberry devices and generate OTPs for your different online transactions from there. That is all about this article.
