During a period of abundant supply of the Onions in the place, a big bag of Onions can be as cheap as N1,000 but at other certain times when the demand surpasses the supply of the item, the same bag of onions can be sold for as high as N15,000 by the sellers. But during the month of February in each year, bags of onions are dashed out by the dealers to their customers to buyers free of charge who will not pay to get them. However, the Onion market leader also stressed out the point that the major challenge and impediment faced by the Onions farmers in Aliero is inadequate preservation facilities for their commodities such that traders struggle to sell off their stock on time which by implication, creates a scarcity of the items at some points in time.

While addressing the issue, Sarki Albasa said that the onions gets spoilt and rotten so easily because they had no standard storage and preservation facilities with which to keep them in good condition for a longer time. For the meantime, he revealed that the local farmers stored their onions inside their locally-made Silos so as to keep them preserved. He even demanded that the Government should look into the matter and provide them with modern onions farming, harvesting, storage, marketing and processing facilities so that they can take the trade to a higher level.

According to the aggrieved market leader, the Onions business in the areas is actually flourishing but rather at a very low pace as a result of the failure of the Government to assist the farmers with the necessary farming facilities and market infrastructures. Also, he observed that when he was made the Onions Market leader 50 years ago, traders always carried their onions on their donkeys to the Jega area and from there to Jeba situated in Kwara State where they usually sold them to merchants. But right now, they no longer do so because people from different part of the country and even traders from other countries now we thank Allah, traders come to their land themselves to buy the onions.

Another Onions farmer and trader named Malam Sani Suleiman also explained that the species of onions cultivated in Aliero cannot be easily stored for a long time and preserved because it easily gets shrinked and rotten. He pleaded that the government should intervene in the situation by establishing high quality Onions processing and storage plants so as to help them boom their trade.

Mohammed Bello another Onions dealer added the onions business would have been 100% profitable and risk free if they had modern means of preserving their stocks of onions so as to ensure a steady supply of the item. He addressed the issue as a major challenge facing them in the business and however, he also noted that the Aliero Onions is one of the best Onions Species throughout the whole world.
